    Why it matters

    Recoveries of up to
    $150,000
per case, and more where licensing history and actual damages are strong

    Reputational damage

Your IP can end up in gambling, alcohol, financial, crypto, pornographic or political ads. Audiences associate your work with whatever it is attached to, and once it is out there, you have no control over the message it carries.

    Brands profit without paying

Posts with memes get significantly more likes, comments and sales than regular posts. A brand using your meme without a license keeps all of that engagement and revenue, while the rights holder who made it possible gets nothing.

    Enforcement pays

Every unlicensed commercial use can be turned into a license fee or settlement. Depending on the country, the licensing history of the work and the actual damages, recoveries can reach $150,000 per case or more. We handle the entire process at no upfront cost to the rights holder.

    What we protect

    Images

Characters, photos, illustrations and comics that became memes and end up in brand ads and posts.

    Video

Scenes and clips that went viral and end up edited into brand reels, stories and paid social campaigns.

    Edited versions

New hat, new caption, new colors or a logo on top. We still recognize your work after it was changed.
    How it works

    From detection to recovery

Millions of ads and posts scanned every week.
    Step 1

    Identify

Potential uses are found across paid ads, organic posts and websites, including cropped and edited versions.
    Step 2

    Verify

Every match is reviewed by our team, checked against existing licenses and documented as evidence.
    Step 3

    Negotiate

A retroactive license is pursued first. If no agreement is reached, the matter goes to independent legal counsel.
    Step 4

    Recover

License fees or settlement payments are pursued and tracked through to receipt, with status updates along the way.

    Why memes

The image changed. The IP didn’t.

Memes get cropped, captioned and remixed. Our software is trained to recognize content through those changes, helping brands find their IP in paid ads and organic posts. We cover all attorney fees, filing costs and other expenses, so enforcement never costs the rights holder anything upfront.

Confirmation of ownership and one agreement. Artnerra handles monitoring, evidence, counsel and all correspondence with the infringing company. The rights holder is involved at the points it chooses.
For full enforcement there is no upfront cost. Artnerra covers legal fees, filing fees and copyright registrations and takes a share of what is recovered. If a matter is unsuccessful, the rights holder owes nothing. Monitoring only and other services are priced individually.
Yes. Mandates are agreed individually. Options range from monitoring and reporting only, to DMCA takedowns, to cease and desist letters without litigation, up to full enforcement including lawsuits. Each agreement is tailored to the rights holder.
We continuously collect millions of ads and brand posts from the public ad libraries of Meta, LinkedIn, Google and TikTok, and from company accounts on Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube and corporate websites. Our matching technology compares every asset against the client portfolio, including cropped, recolored, captioned and edited versions and single frames of videos. Every match is reviewed by our team before anything is pursued.
Only commercial use by companies, such as paid ads, sponsored posts, brand accounts and corporate websites. Fan content, personal posts and editorial use are left alone. Every match is checked against existing licenses first, so licensees are never contacted.
With the rights holder’s approval, an independent law firm we work with files suit. We cover those costs as well and carry the full risk of the matter.

For U.S. enforcement it should be. A registration is required to file suit over U.S. works and to claim statutory damages. We handle registrations free of charge. Works we represent are registered, for example Doge (VA0002394161, public record), Running Away Balloon (VA0002397201, public record) and Cheems (VAu001418563, public record).

Yes. Most matters are resolved privately after a cease and desist letter and stay confidential. Only lawsuits that are filed become public record, and the rights holder decides how far each matter goes.
Yes. Every letter can be reviewed before it is sent, or the process can be left entirely to us.
Many matters resolve within weeks of the first letter. Matters that go to court can take several months.
No. Artnerra handles detection, evidence and correspondence. Legal action is taken by independent law firms we work with in the U.S. and abroad.
